What good is a UTV without miles of unexplored terrain to conquer? In our years as UTV enthusiasts, some of the best times we can recollect have happened in desolate places with fairly standard machines. Sometimes, it isn’t about what you’re driving, but where you’re driving.
For our latest RZR build, we called up our good friends at DesertWorks in Claremont, California for some help building the ultimate Expedition-style offroad car. No long travel, no performance modifications, just creature comforts and plenty of storage.
Kory called on Desertworks and Assault Industries to upgrade his 2016 RZR XP Turbo. Desertworks’ roll cage with fiberglass roof ($2,800), rear LED bar ($269) and fiberglass trunk clean up the Polaris lines. Desertworks also supplied the full-frame doors ($629) with door bags ($129); roof rack and dash switch plates for the Lazer Star PreRunner single-row LED 32-inch and twin 11-inch light bars; LED roof and pillar lights; and the WhipTech 4-foot multicolor LED whips ($115 each), mounts and under-glow lights ($199).
In December of 2017, after surprising another combat wounded vet with a Polaris General, we looked at Jon’s wife Courtney and said “Jon’s next”, but we’ll need her help to keep it quiet, while also getting her input to ensure it meets Jon’s needs. We made the call to Polaris and they sent out a “Black Pearl” 4 seat General, that we immediately loaded up and sent to Scott Bracci at Desert Works. Scott and crew have always given Warfighter Made one hundred percent when it builds vehicles for us, and Scott had a special interest in this build, so we knew we were going to get something special. What we got was a custom cage, with safari rack, and a winch controlled crane, that allows Jon to effortlessly lift items from the ground and put them in the bed, to include his wheelchair.
